I bought these from my local Boots shop and was very happy to find a sensitive version of strips. It is a new product not yet available from Boots website - let's hope the void will soon be filled.
In one small pack there are 16 strips that can be used up to three times each. That gives you 48 treatments per pack! I forgot the price but remember it was in a region of £4, not huge amount for 48 treatments. Last time I used facial wax strips few years back I was left with chaffed upper lip for a long time and sworn never use similar product again. However with this one, promise of being a sensitive skin product brought me some initial faith in it, enough to give it a try. In fact I couldn't wait to try it.
I learnt from small leaflet included in the pack that product is dermatologically tested, hypoallergenic and fragrance free. The leaflet also included all necessary instructions and warnings that should be taken into account before starting the treatment. Wherever occur varicose veins, broken skin, spots or other damage, the product should not be used at all.
After reading all enclosed information I prepared my upper lip skin for the treatment: cleaned it thoroughly so that there were no remains of any skincare products, then pad-dried it and dusted slightly with talcum powder to avoid transferring wax to the skin.
Both sides of the skin have to be treated separately, as hair grow on them in opposite directions.
I smoothed one strip firmly onto the skin in the direction of growth making sure the strip was well adhered. Finally, holding the skin taut with one hand, I immediately pulled the strip in the opposite direction of hair growth. Repeated twice on the same side and then moved to the other side of my upper lip using new strip. Repeated the whole process in opposite directions throughout. I removed the remnants of wax from my skin using baby oil and cotton wool bud.
After inspection I discovered very few stubborn hair that had to be removed with tweezers.
Some redness occurred but disappeared quite soon and I think that oil did its healing there.
Of course, there was some pain involved, as usually with hair waxing, but it wasn't excessive.
Next day I could easily apply my make-up and the result was smooth and nice without any adverse effect occurring at any time after treatment.
Considering my previous experience with similar products, I'd happily give this one 5*.
It was the first time in my life that I had not experienced any adverse effects of hair wax treatment and coming from someone with skin sensitivity, it means the business.
My verdict is: Give it a go even if you have had bad experience in the past, you might be in for a surprise.
