Our dearly beloved cat, Gustav, departed recently and we all miss him very much
He was a very special and sensitive creature and lead life of his own, fostering us on the side and taking a good care, when we needed him.
Once in a while, he would bring some small offerings (a mouse, a bird or a frog) to make sure we fed sufficiently.
As a young cat, he used to bring over other cat friends and feed them on his own food.
He’d always make sure there was some food left in his bowl in the evening and when midnight was approaching he became increasingly uneasy about our presence in the living room. He would try to lure us into our bedroom, so that he would be able to go out and bring over his cat friend, that we decided to call Bandit, as he was a bit of a bully.
Our, then, flat was actually a time share between two of us and Gustav, who at night claimed it as his own.
After feeding his friend, Gustav would then have a good time chasing Bandit (and vice versa) around our living room.
One night, I happened upon them on my way to the bathroom and hence discovered the mischievous practices that were going on while we blissfully slept in our bedroom.
It’s a true story but so unbelievable that we shared it with a vet. He said it was unusual but some sensitive and intelligent cats were capable of many surprises and he certainly would give it to Gustav.
We decided then that our cat needs a close companion and got a white shorthair domestic named Casper.
They were with us, through thick and thin, for over 9 years now and the sadness after Gustav’s sudden departure will never abandon us. We cherish a lot of fond memories of him and he’ll always be with us in his soft and fluffy way.
We love you forever.
